Graduate Certificate in Community Engagement

Graduate Certificate in Community Engagement
  • Delicious

This year, I will be working towards graduate certification in Community Engagement with the MSU Office of University Outreach and Engagement. I also participated this fall at the Emergent Engagement Scholars Workshop at the National Outreach Scholarship Conference. These experiences are necessary for my application of community engagement and archaeology, as I look for new and better ways to engage with local communities to cooperatively develop their cultural heritage.

I believe strongly that archaeology has a significant place at the table, as I have written about here. As a tangible discipline, we provide the opportunity for communities to engage physically with their cultural past, and to interact at every level of the research process, from implementation to presentation. It is my hope that I will be able to gain additional skills through this certificate program that will allow me to improve on the community engagement that already happens in my discipline.
