One of the major constants throughout my life has been baseball. Some of my earliest and greatest memories are playing catch with my father in our basement, or playing whiffle ball in our front yard. I had the good fortune of being able to play baseball at a competitive level as a collegiate athlete at Kalamazoo College, and continue to play in summer baseball leagues. I have also had the opportunity to return to my high school, East Lansing, and help coach.
Baseball has provided a number of valuable lessons that I have been able to apply to my professional life. Leadership, teamwork, overcoming adversity and dealing with failure are some of those lessons. I have also learned the value of sacrifice, communication, hard work, and working together to meet common goals. I hope to be able to instill these values in the future as a coach at the collegiate or high school level, where I think being an athlete can serve as a valuable asset to education and the development of life skills.
